When travelling for one week, it’s possible to take only carry on luggage in a medium size bag to airline specifications.

This has the advantages that you are not carrying too much gear, can get through airports quicker, are super flexible and have less risk of your luggage going missing. The disadvantage is possibly needing to wash out some of your clothes in the hotel, but this is not a huge problem. Some travelers will go even more minimal than this, but everyone has to draw their own line.
